If required by your instructor, the LockDown Browser application must be installed on your Windows or Mac computer
before you take your first Canvas assessment (quiz or test).
If you do not have LockDown Browser already installed on your computer, when you attempt to take the Test Quiz you will be prompted to download and install the program before you can complete the Text Quiz.
These instructions will show you how to install Lockdown Browser on your computer:
Install Lockdown Browser on Windows Computer
- Go to http://my.brenau.edu and login to the student portal
- Click on the Canvas app icon in your dashboard
- Click on your course and look for the Test Quiz in Assignments
- Try taking the Test Quiz, if LockDown Browser is not installed on your computer
- Accept all the default prompts to install LockDown Browser
- Go to Start > All Apps > Respondus > LockDown Browser
Steps to Download LockDown Browser for MacOS
- Go to http://my.brenau.edu and login to the student portal
- Click on the Canvas app icon in your dashboard
- Click on your course and look for the Test Quiz in Assignments
- Try taking the Test Quiz, if LockDown Browser is not installed on your mac
- Accept all the default prompts to install LockDown Browser.
- Go to Finder > Applications and double-click on the "LockDown
Browser" icon (a world globe with padlock) to start LockDown Browser.
Taking an Assessment with your Mac computers
- Close all programs, unless one is used to connect you to the Internet.
- Locate the “LockDown Browser” shortcut on the desktop and
double-click it. (For Mac users, launch “LockDown Browser” from the
Applications folder.)
- If prompted to close a blocked program (e.g. screen capture, instant messaging) choose Yes when prompted.
- Login to your Canvas course.
- Navigate to the quiz and select the Take a Quiz link.
- Once a quiz has been started with LockDown Browser, you cannot exit until the Submit Answers button is clicked.
